Scotland Spokesperson Training
We’re looking for people in Scotland who are working on issues that push for big progressive change in society and who would like to use the media to talk about the things they are working on.
We’re looking for people across Scotland who are working for ambitious climate action, a fairer economy and progressive change and who want to use the media to amplify their work and shift conversations. We are looking for folks who cover issues including (but not limited to) the climate emergency and a just transition, energy bills, economic policy, housing, transport, jobs, anti-racism, workers' rights, migration, and more. The training consists of:
- Two half-days of online and one full day in person training in central Edinburgh where we will cover everything from messaging and storytelling to interview preparation and non-verbal communication.
Participants will practice a series of different interview formats with framing experts, producers and journalists. Following training, members of the network will then be promoted to media outlets on a regular basis by our media team who offer expert support in securing and executing TV and radio bookings.
We are particularly excited to hear from people with identities who have been traditionally under-represented in broadcast media.
It will look like: -Tuesday 27th October on Zoom (9am - 1.30pm) -Wednesday 28th October on Zoom (9am - 1.30pm) -Thursday 29th October in Edinburgh (9am - 5.30pm with a social after)
If you are shortlisted we will be conducting 15 minute interviews online via zoom on 30th September and 1st October.
Key outcomes
As part of the training you will receive:
- Tips and tricks to quickly prepare for broadcast interviews- A messaging framework that has been proven to push back against the divide and rule tactics of our opponents
- A supportive community: When you join the Spokesperson Network you join the ranks of other progressive voices across a range of issues - not just your own.
- Participants will have PR booking support for interviews following on from training, as part of our wider NEON network.

Who is this training for?
We are looking for people who want to hone their media skills so that they can confidently engage in the public debate and be actively pitched after.
Whether from NGO or grassroots, we’re looking for voices that can cut through the noise and shift the conversation. We prioritise people who are working class, women or trans and from communities of colour, or other voices that have been traditionally underrepresented in the media so far.

We please ask that when people apply, they put a hold in their diary for the training dates of 27-29th October to ensure they have the availability necessary.

Fees
Grassroots / Unpaid Organiser: Free (scholarship place)
Small Org (annual budget ~£100k): £400 + 20% VAT
Medium Org (annual budget ~£500k): £900 + 20% VAT
Large Org (annual budget ~£2m+): £2000 + 20% VAT
