Transformative Organising - London

Transformative Organising - London

Join our 2-day training for organisers in London working on economic justice - Oct 29 & 30, 2025

NEON is excited to host the latest version of our Transformative Organising programme this October for organisers and campaigners working towards economic, social and environmental justice in London.

With the far-right on the rise, our local areas facing deep cuts to services and our city facing a multitude of injustices, it’s so important that we take the opportunity to come together as organisers to build and refresh our toolkits, reflect on the work we are doing and up our organising game so we can win!

What is the Transformative Organising programme?

‍This two-day programme will give you the tools, techniques and confidence to develop as an organiser that can build a base with those at the sharp end of the crisis, create strategic, escalating campaigns and develop politically-conscious leaders.

Transformative Organising is all about:

  • Transforming the conditions we live in
  • Transforming who has power in society, long term
  • Transforming ourselves and our capacity

‍Transformative Organising starts with the lived injustices people face and builds towards a collective vision for change grounded in shared values and social justice. Through this transformative approach, organisers develop the capacity of communities not just to win campaigns, but to shift power in society and address the root causes of injustice.

    Core Details:

  • Dates: Wednesday 29th & Thursday 30th October (must be able to attend both days)
  • Location: Toynbee Hall, 28 Commercial St, London, E1 6LS

Applications will close at midnight on Thursday 18th September

Food will be provided and we can also cover travel costs if you need it.

  • Deadline to apply: September 18, 2025

    Key outcomes

    Participants will learn how to:
  • Take a systematic approach to building your base with those at the sharp end of the crisis.
  • Develop strategic, escalating campaigns underpinned by a collective analysis of the problem.
  • Raise political consciousness and leadership capacity at every step of the way whilst building alliances and solidarity locally, nationally and internationally.
  • Who is this training for?

This training is for anyone in London who is organising or wants to organise in a transformative way to build long-term power to tackle injustice. That means you’ll be part of a group, organisation or community that has the potential to adopt this approach or develop it further. You may be an experienced organiser or just beginning to develop your skills.

We’re looking to recruit participants working towards economic, social and environmental justice, with particular attention given to those working on housing and migration issues, as these are key areas of focus for NEON. We will also prioritise places for those with direct experience of the issue they’re seeking to challenge, though this isn’t essential for applicants.

We are looking for participants who:

  • Are part of formal or more informal organisations or groups that are campaigning to improve the lives of people in a community and want to use a community organising and base-building approach
  • Intentionally work to bring those most affected by this issue into your campaign
  • Are committed to organising and making long-term change in London and your local area
  • Are keen to develop their practical and strategic skills as an organiser
  • Understand the importance of self-development and working with others
  • Demonstrate solidarity and commitment to anti-oppression

NEON training cohorts are made up of people who understand the importance of self and collective care in the work we do, and believe that building and sustaining a culture based on anti-oppression, deep understanding and solidarity is central to the change we want to see. We would also hope that participants would be open to being a part of continuing to work with NEON and collaborate with other participants on the programme.
  • What does the programme involve?

    Content will include:

How to choose what issue to campaign on and what kind of criteria you might use to inform this strategic decision

How to use power mapping to chart:

  • Who our target is
  • Who can give us what we want
  • How we might influence them
  • Who are allies might be

How you build your base including:

  • How to do different forms of outreach to bring people in
  • How to do a one-to-one conversation
  • How to run effective meetings with your group
  • How to take a systematic approach to base building

We’ll explore the content as a whole group and in smaller groups through interactive activities, workshops and discussions. We have a team of experienced trainers and facilitators to help you unpack the learning and apply it to your own organisations and campaigns. This is also a great opportunity to connect with other organisers across this big city and to hear more about their organising challenges and experiences.
  • Application process
To help us make sure that Transformative Organising is the right training for you we ask all participants to answer a few questions. You can either write your answers in the application form or upload a video/audio file instead.
