Transformative Organising - North East
A 2-day training for organisers in the North East working on economic justice - 1st & 2nd December 2026.
We know that when people come together, build strong relationships and organise collectively, we can win incredible things. But building that kind of power takes skill, strategy and practice. Whether you're an experienced organiser or at the beginning of your journey, this training is a chance to sharpen your organising skills, build your confidence and develop the tools to build community power and win lasting change.
NEON is excited to bring together organisers and campaigners from across the North East for the latest version of our Transformative Organising training. At a time when our communities are facing deep cuts, multiple injustices and the growing threat of the far right, we need powerful, organised communities more than ever.
Over two days, we'll come together as organisers, reflect on the work we're doing and build our organising toolkit to get ready for the fights ahead!Core Details:

NEON is committed to making our training accessible to all. Please let us know about your access needs in the application form. We will provide a light breakfast and lunch on both days and can cover travel and childcare costs where needed.
What is Transformative Organising?
Transformative Organising starts with the lived injustices people face and builds towards a collective vision for change, grounded in shared values and social justice. Through this approach, organisers build the capacity of communities not just to win campaigns, but to shift the balance of power in society and address the root causes of injustice.
In practice, this means building campaigns that don't just win improvements to our day-to-day lives, but bring new people into organising, develop new leaders who can build their confidence, skills and power to take action, and leave our communities better organised for the next fight.
Who is this training for?
We’re looking to recruit participants working towards economic, social and environmental justice, with particular attention given to those working on housing, migration and climate justice issues, as these are key areas we are focussing on at NEON. We will prioritise places for people with direct experience of the issues they’re organising around, although this isn’t essential to apply.
We’re looking for people who want to bring those most affected by injustice into organising, develop their practical and strategic skills, and commit to building lasting change in their communities. We also ask that participants are committed to anti-oppression, self and collective care, solidarity and learning with others.
Most importantly, we’re looking for people who are excited to learn, put organising into practice and build power together. We hope participants will stay connected with each other and with NEON beyond the training, continuing to share, collaborate and organise across the region.
What does the programme involve?
This two-day training is highly interactive and participatory. Our team of experienced trainers and facilitators will help you unpack the learning and apply it to your own organisations and campaigns. This is also a great opportunity to connect with other organisers across the region and to hear more about their organising challenges and experiences.
The training will give you the tools, techniques and confidence to:
- Choose a campaign issue in a way that is collective, strategic and has the potential to get lots of people involved quickly.
- Develop strategic, escalating campaigns that are grounded in a collective analysis of the problem and how to put pressure on decision makers.
- Build a powerful base with people most affected by an issue, using one-to-one conversations and other relational tools to turn concerns into collective action.
- Develop politically conscious leaders at every step, from the first moment someone joins to supporting long standing members to take on greater responsibility and leadership.
Application process
Applications close at midnight on Sunday 8th November at midnight.
We expect to let applicants know by Thursday 12th November whether their application has been successful or not.
Fees
Transformative Organising is free to attend, and we will provide meals and refreshments during the programme. We can also provide support with travel and accommodation where needed.
