Housing

NEON’s housing work involves training groups across the country in our Transformative Organising approach, supporting local housing campaigns to power up their media skills, and working with organisations to sharpen their political analysis and strategies.

The UK’s financialised housing system turns homes into assets, funnels wealth to the top and deprives millions of secure and affordable housing in the places they love. A new economy that serves the interest of people and planet has to start with meeting people’s most basic needs and that starts with housing.

The Renters’ Rights Bill - though insufficient - is a testament to many years of work from the housing movement, and the growth of member-led tenants unions has brought with it exciting experimentation with community organising and people-powered campaigns that have won significant housing improvements.

Organisations across the country are now voicing strong demands for rent controls and increased social house-building, and linking the housing crisis to an extractive economic system, the challenges posed by climate change and the experiences of migrants and asylum seekers.
