Transformative Organising

At NEON we believe that strong social movements include a range of organisations with an assortment of different approaches and tactics. But without strong bases we lack the collective power we need to change things – so we help organisations build these. We also believe that organising can be a powerful tool for building cross-community solidarity in a moment of increasing division.

We use a combination of multi-day trainings, convenings and 1-2-1 mentoring to support organisers – experienced and new – to develop their craft and find solutions to the everyday challenges of organising on the ground in their communities.

Transformative Organising seeks to:

• Transform the conditions we live in
• Transform ourselves and our capacity
• Transform who has power in society, long term

Our cutting-edge content includes modules and tools on:

• How to choose what issue to campaign on and what kind of criteria you might use to make this strategic decision
• How to use power mapping to chart who is our target, who can give us what we want, how might we influence them and who might help us
• How you build your base, including how to do different forms of outreach to bring people in, how to do a 1-2-1, how to run an effective meeting, and how to take a systematic approach to base-building

A brief history

We formally launched this programme in 2023, following an extensive period of curriculum research and development. We’ve used these resources to run extensive trainings for housing organisers and for economic justice organisers in Birmingham, as well as providing hundreds of hours of 1-2-1 organising mentoring and coaching.
